    Due to the various vehicle concepts and licenses, there are different opportunities for reuse for commuter rail vehicles. For the asset financing, SCI Verkehr analysed several vehicles with regard to their value stability. We analysed both single-deck and double-deck vehicles against the background of the expected tenders in the years 2022-2026 (once the first franchises expire). In addition to an asset value analysis, we also used a cash flow analysis for leasing the vehicles.

    On behalf of the operator of a "rolling road", SCI Verkehr performed two value appraisals prior to the procurement of new vehicles: for the financing of special-purpose low-floor wagons and accompanying coaches for the "rolling road", SCI Verkehr assessed their economic value and chances of reuse. While the low-floor wagons could be used on other rolling road routes as well, for the accompanying coaches the conversion to couchette coaches was one of the possible scenarios for reuse.

In doing so, we took into consideration the significant drop in rail freight transport as a result of the global economic and financial crisis as well as the current price development for second-hand rolling stock.

SCI Verkehr developed a market overview on the distribution and the structure of the diesel locomotive fleet in Europe and identified possible interview partners for a direct sales approach in a second step.

For the processing of the project, SCI Verkehr reassessed the current market situation in European passenger and freight transport in as well as the prospects for the leasing of locomotives, freight wagons and passenger coaches. The focus has been on the integration and analysis of the current market situation and its impact on the asset value of the vehicles with the aid of a market factor. The value development determined has subsequently been verified with the current reference transactions. In addition, SCI performed an analysis of used vehicle transactions as well as insolvencies of railway operators.
