To this end, SCI Verkehr is running broad-ranging analyses of flows of goods and is developing, together with additional partners, a strategy for the most important ports in North Rhine-Westphalia.

    In this project, the flow of European goods from important companies in five selected sectors were analysed in terms of sources, destinations, volumes and types of goods. A customer analysis regarding the transport process and transport demands was also carried out. Prognoses concerning market developments in specific sectors of rail freight transport were then compiled and, on the basis of the flow of transport, new potential customers for railway transport were identified.

    As part of an internationalisation strategy, SCI Verkehr GmbH first of all ascertained informative key data regarding track system infrastructure fittings of metro and light rail systems in Europe and the Mediterranean countries.     SCI Verkehr supported an investment company in its acquisition of a railway industry company. The focus of SCI Verkehr?s activities, within the framework of a due diligence process, was the analysis of current and future market performance of the company to be acquired against the backdrop of the main development trends in the market and with regard to competition. The plausibility of the seller?s assumptions was critically checked using SCI Verkehr?s own market estimates. SCI Verkehr then strategically assessed the opportunities and risks for the buyer.

  • Development of a business model for a port train terminal

    The project?s objective was to achieve a sustained increase in the turnover of a rail terminal in a German domestic port. To this end, SCI Verkehr (in co-operation with another management consultancy) worked out an implementation-oriented stepped concept. Principal components of the concept were the integration of the rail terminal in the port and logistics activities, an analysis of the market trends in rail freight transport (general cargo and wagon-load traffic) between 2000 and 2004 and the identification of suitable partners within the catchment area of the rail terminal. Based on the analysis, a modified business model and a concrete business plan for the years 2005-2010 was prepared.

All implications were appraised and a discrete proposal was submitted.
