On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr analysed the European leasing market and its development. For this purpose, we analysed in detail the demand regarding individual vehicle classes as well as the competition situation of the various providers. The analysis serves as input for the strategic business development of the company.
Customer: Service provider for institutional investors
SCI Verkehr presents highlights of the dynamics in the railway industry to institutional investors at a conference. Focus is put on competition among rolling stock manufacturers as well as their current and expected expansion efforts.
Customer: Lessor
On behalf of a European lessor, SCI Verkehr is conducting a market study on the awarding of contracts in the German regional rail transport sector in recent years. The study focusses on the multiple units and the corresponding financing concepts (public transport authority pool, guarantee models, operating lease contracts). In addition, the forthcoming awards in regional rail transport will be examined with regard to the possible application of an operating lease model.
Customer: Component manufacturer
On behalf of an Asian component manufacturer, SCI Verkehr analysed the sales potential of selected innovative rail vehicle components. The regions focused were Germany, China and India.
Customer: International financer
On behalf of a financer, SCI Verkehr determines current and future demand for electric locomotives. For this purpose, SCI Verkehr analyses the locomotive pool as well as the expected future demand for transport services and finally determines the expected number of leases.
Customer: Leasing company
On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr evaluated the market environment for dual-mode locomotives. Both flexible application possibilities due to the dual-mode drive (electric or diesel engine) and the respective application advantages of four and six-axle locomotives were examined in more detail. Both a cost-based and an income-based valuation following international standards completed the analysis.
Customer: International credit institute
On behalf of an international credit institute, SCI Verkehr assessed the value developments of DMUs and EMUs for operation in the German commuter rail market. SCI Verkehr analysed both technical aspects, such as maintenance condition and refurbishment costs, as well as the opportunities for reuse in the European market, in particular once the franchise expires.
Customer: Bank group
On behalf of a refinancing bank, SCI Verkehr analysed the return policy of regional rail vehicles and in a second step determined a basic scenario of costs to be expected if the vehicles are returned within the contract duration.
Customer: A North Rhine-Westphalian branch representation of the logistics industry, initiated by the state government
With the NRW.LOGISTIKINDEX, SCI Verkehr provides a quarterly evaluation of business surveys in the transport and logistics sector based on the monthly survey of the SCI/Logistikbarometer. The focus of the evaluation is on the comparison of data from the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Customer: Transhipment company
The operator of a transhipment facility for intermodal transport in a German domestic port has seen considerable volume increases in its transport relationship with a regional company of the automobile industry. The operator wants to face this development with larger transport and warehousing capacities and therefore intends to introduce more efficient transhipment equipment and change the layout of the terminal areas. SCI Verkehr GmbH is creating an appropriate application for financial aid as per the German federal government?s guideline for intermodal transport, and is supporting the preliminary examination to clarify the question of location.
Customer: LOG-IT Club e.V.
In April 2018, the Competence Network Logistics.NRW was launched as an innovation and partner network of the state of NRW. The network's activities are strongly focused on the topics of innovation and digitalisation. SCI Verkehr organises all technical and organisational activities for the LOG-IT Club e.V. in close cooperation with the German Association of Transport and Logistics.
Customer: Railway undertaking
On behalf of a railway undertaking, SCI Verkehr is analysing the effects of the introduction of Digital Automatic Coupling (DAK) on the performance of rail freight transport. As part of a meta-study, SCI Verkehr summarises the results of various studies on the DAK and its effects in line and shunting operations and evaluates them with regard to an increase in capacity after the successful migration of the DAK after 2030.
Customer: European railway company
As a result of new EU regulations, the European state railways have seen some very extensive reforms since the beginning of the 90s. The objectives of these reforms were to improve transport services and the quality of rail transport and to reduce the strain on public budgets. On behalf of a European state railway, SCI Verkehr analysed the track records and development of selected state railways with regard to these objectives. SCI Verkehr made the comparison drawing upon specific key figures, with the help of which we assessed the objectives listed.
Customer: Global player in food industry
A major company in the food industry is intending to close a location in Germany and replace it with a pure cross dock to slim down stocks and save costs. However, the supply quality for customers must not suffer. The task is to examine and assess the planned measures with regard to plausibility and their logistical effect.

Analysis of the daily operational processes in trans-shipping facilities and in administrative areas. Direct support in the implementation of suggestions for improvement of daily operations.
