On behalf of a rail freight transport operator, SCI Verkehr develops a fleet strategy for the entire fleet of freight wagons in order to deduce a long-term procurement strategy. For this purpose, SCI Verkehr analyses the expected demand for transport services and the development of supply of freight wagons and innovative component solutions.
Customer: Global player in the food industry
In the context of restructuring, a global enterprise in the food industry intends to close a logistics site and several production sites in Germany as well as to reorganise further core departments. SCI Verkehr surveys the plans and supports the process of negotiating a reconciliation of interests. Also, alternative scenarios are developed and moderated in this context.
Customer: Financier for rail vehicles
SCI Verkehr supported a financier of rail vehicles in the evaluation of a modern track maintenance machine. SCI Verkehr has been available as an expert in the context of interviews.
Customer: Consultancy company
In order to derive sales potentials, SCI Verkehr carried out research into electric locomotives of the industrial locomotives formerly built in Hennigsdorf of the EL-2 series in Poland and Russia. The objective was to determine the number of locomotives of this series and its sub-designs that are still in operation, as well as the condition of the vehicles. For this purpose the current owners were identified and contacted and their strategic resource planning was ascertained with regard to the maintenance or refurbishment of the vehicles.
Customer: Projekt Ruhr GmbH
Within the scope of marketing fields of expertise for a leading German business region, the aim is to link together various fields of expertise (logistics and IT) in order to develop a settlement strategy. SCI Verkehr is adding to and amending an existing company database regarding logistics/IT and carrying out a target customer analysis in the field of logistics/IT companies. The result is a marketing strategy for the combined segment logistics/IT with concrete advice for proactively attracting possible investors.
Customer: Leasing company
On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr evaluated modern electric multiple units (EMU) to be operated on German regional passenger rail services. The project included a valuation in accordance with the DRC approach as well as an analysis of possibilities for re-use of the vehicles. In addition, the normal service life of electric railcars is assessed on the basis of technical and economic indicators.
Customer: International credit institute
On behalf of an international credit institute, SCI Verkehr analysed the value development of rolling stock over their entire useful life. In the project we defined individual asset categories in the field of passenger vehicles and locomotives using an analysis of demand from the client, and building upon this we developed generally applicable value curves for an internal portfolio assessment. To do this we used an evaluation of future demand for rolling stock in Europe.

SCI Verkehr valued a fleet of locomotives and freight wagons according to the different valuation approaches market value and liquidation value using the cost-based valuation method.
Customer: Allianz pro Schiene
Working for Allianz pro Schiene and in co-operation with the IFEU institute in Heidelberg, SCI Verkehr is preparing the evaluation parameters for an "environmental comparison - rail transport" and their transformation to a transparent and (in view of different framework conditions) just measuring system. It is intended for use as tool for assessing railway transport companies and their rail vehicles in terms of environmental compatibility and under a public competition also as a marketing tool in favor of rail-bound transport.

With the NRW.LOGISTIKINDEX, SCI Verkehr provides a quarterly evaluation of business surveys in the transport and logistics sector based on the monthly survey of the SCI/Logistikbarometer. The focus of the evaluation is on the comparison of data from the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

A leading provider of rail freight transport services is planning to reorganise its customer support according to market requirements. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to evaluate envisaged and partly already implemented measures and to support coordinating personnel planning in terms of participation .

On behalf of an investor, SCI Verkehr prepared a comprehensive market analysis for the maintenance of freight wagons. This included a review of the basic principles of maintenance, an analysis of the main trends and drivers in the market, an explanation of new technological developments and an overview of maintenance companies and their locations. A focus of the analyses was also the benchmarking of prices of maintenance periods for different wagon types and components, as well as their development.
