SCI Verkehr is a medium-sized, sustainability-oriented consultancy focussing on strategic issues in the international rail and logistics business. We support our business partners in optimising their processes and evaluating their assets. We help to analyse markets and develop sustainable and tailor-made strategies for the future. This includes, among other things: Accompanying M&A activities, realising climate targets, optimising the portfolio or existing processes, and opening up new markets and business areas.
Customer: Navigation company
In summer 2000, SCI Verkehr was asked to examine the performance capacity of a navigation company, to which it provided strategic advice. The goal was to determine how results could be improved through optimizing performance, restructuring and the expansion of business areas. Emphasized were the development of new business areas and recommendations for alternative organization and financing models. The development of the project followed recommendations based on transport, tourism, business and organization.

SCI Verkehr has analysed the impacts of the mobility and energy transition in Europe on the transportation markets. Regulations and market developments in the transportation and energy sectors have been considered in order to produce a picture of the transportation market by 2030. Thereby growing business sectors have been identified and quantified (market volume), and business opportunities have been derived for the client. Hydrogen, electrification and green economy were topics of the study.
Customer: European railway transport company
On behalf of a European railway transport company, SCI Verkehr defined and assessed potential services for third parties in regional rail transport. The objective was to develop new business fields and to prepare the market entry. For this purpose, SCI Verkehr identified services along the entire value chain in regional rail passenger transport and assessed their marketability. In the context of the project, initial talks with potential customers (transport companies, authorities, providers) have already been held.

SCI Verkehr is compiling an overview of various characteristics of the rail market in UK for a Spanish trade association. Key figures on fleets and infrastructure as well as company information are identified and compiled.
Customer: Global market leader in the drive component segment
On behalf of a global market leader in the drive component segment, SCI elaborated a market outlook for the Indian market and compiled important, current and possible future procurement projects for rolling stock in all segments.
Customer: Technology Group
On behalf of a technology group, SCI compiled market volumes of the global rail vehicle market. Here the focus was on current and expected future deliveries.
Customer: Financer
SCI Verkehr creates an update of the existing collateral valuation method for rolling stock. In this context, value-over-time, market assessments and reuse probabilities at home and abroad are reviewed. In addition, an analysis of price development and leasing rates of selected reference vehicles is provided.
Customer: Railway transport company
For the internal evaluation of a financing project for dual-system EMUs, a transport company needed a vehicle evaluation by SCI Verkehr. The focus of the evaluation was set on the current price benchmark, the value development as well as the analysis of possible secondary markets for multiple units. The calculation of the Fair Value was based on a DRC approach. Various vehicle versions were taken into consideration.
Customer: International financing company
On behalf of a financing company SCI Verkehr evaluated intermodal wagons and powder wagons for rail freight transport in the UK. The project is an update of a valuation exercised in 2015 and included an evaluation by means of a DRC and DCF approach as well as an analysis of possibilities for re-using in Europe.
Customer: Dortmund project
Within the scope of the Dortmund project, the Dortmund Economic Development Corporation has identified the logistics sector as one of the most important up-and-coming markets in the city. For this reason a cluster manager was appointed who is responsible for maintaining stocks and the relocations of logistics-related industry. Through contacts in Korea, a delegation of the Korean International Logistics Council was encouraged to come to Dortmund. Within the scope of this visit, SCI Verkehr is developing a specialist event on the subject of the ?logistics market Korea? and is responsible for the entire event management, the selection of speakers, inviting sector specialists and hosting the event in Dortmund.
Customer: Logistics initiative Hamburg
Since 2009, SCI Verkehr GmbH has carried out an annual survey of the members of the logistics initiative group "Logistikinitiative Hamburg" regarding the economic development of the logistics market in Hamburg. The data collected is then compared with the SCI/Logistics Barometer and therefore put in a national context. In 2013, members were surveyed again. The results were presented as part of the initiative members' meeting.

SCI Verkehr supports an investor in the preparation of a CDD on an investment opportunity in an alternative propulsion technology for rail vehicles. Specific target markets are analysed, procurement criteria of the end customers are evaluated and the business plan is assessed and adapted together with the client.

A leading provider of rail freight transport services is planning to reorganise its customer support according to market requirements. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to evaluate envisaged and partly already implemented measures and to support coordinating personnel planning in terms of participation .

Customer: Global player in the food industry
The works committee and logistics management of a global player in the food industry intended to initiate an open dialogue about the future optimisation of logistical processes with external support. By conducting talks with both sides, SCI Verkehr prepared the dialogue, hosted the meetings of a joint working group and provided specialist input with the aim of developing a common perception of the logistical future of the company.

SCI Verkehr supports a leading railway operator in the conceptual reorganisation of essential parts of rail freight transport. For this purpose, available concepts are reviewed and new approaches to advancing this field of business are developed and evaluated. It is aimed at achieving higher efficiency in this segment by reorganising responsibilities and processes in production and sales.
