On behalf of a leading investment company, SCI Verkehr compiled a market study of freight wagon leasing in Europe. This study is used as a basis for a business strategy. Besides a market overview, synergy effects and the economic consequences of the German rail freight master plan are presented.

SCI Verkehr has been conducting a member survey regarding the economic development of the logistic sector in Hamburg on behalf of the Logistikinitiative Hamburg since 2009. The collected data is checked against the SCI/Logistikbarometer and put into the national context. This survey was conducted once again in 2016 and was presented at the initiative's general assembly.
Customer: Vehicle manufacturer
On behalf of a vehicle manufacturer, SCI Verkehr has collected data concerning customer satisfaction and customers? requirements of railway companies regarding the supply of passenger coaches in several countries. The results portray an analysis of the weaknesses and strengths of individual manufacturers of regional and long-distance trains, which provides information on the optimisation potential of products (LCC, fittings, etc.) as well distribution and after sales services.
Customer: Refinancing credit institution
A refinancing credit institution commissioned SCI Verkehr for initial and subsequent valuations for an extensive rolling stock portfolio in Europe and North America. The results of the calculation were used internally at the client for the assessment of credit risks. In addition to the semi-annual portfolio valuation according to IVS 2020, SCI Verkehr supported the client at regular intervals at short notice with additional market analyses and expert discussions.
Customer: Component supplier
On behalf of a component supplier related to the railway and bus sector, SCI Verkehr analyses current and future stock of buses and rolling stock as well as their demand potential. Regional focus of the analysis lies on Europe, Russia, China und Japan as well on selected metropolises in Asia and the Middle East.

On behalf of an investor, SCI Verkehr valued a fleet of modern used tank, intermodal and bulk wagons. The valuation of the wagons according to DCF and DRC methodology took into account the wagon-specific supply and demand situation.
Customer: Leasing Company
As part of a leasing companies refinancing process, SCI Verkehr determines the current and future market value of the fleet of locomotives and passenger vehicles. The valuation is carried out using an income-based and a cost-based valuation procedure and is supplemented by an extensive supply and demand analysis.
Customer: Industry
Comparative study of new and second-hand vehicles in relation to their rail service and value stability. Assessment of the potential use and sale of second-hand and modernised diesel locomotives as basis of a value analysis across their life cycle. Provision of the value so determined as asset security for financing.
Customer: Port Company
A terminal for combined transport in a German domestic port was to be rehabilitated and extended. SCI Verkehr prepared the application for public funding. The need for the measure was justified, competition to other terminals and economic efficiency analysed. In addition, SCI Verkehr attended the following procedure of approval and allocation of public funding.
Customer: An infrastructure manager
SCI Verkehr analysed the future potential of hydrogen shunters and the corresponding demand for an hydrogen refuelling station for an infrastructure manager. This included a survey of railway undertakings present on the network, the calculation of the future demand for hydrogen and a SWOT analysis of different operating models for a hydrogen refuelling station.

SCI Verkehr analysed various KPIs for the maintenance and repair of vehicles and the overhaul and reconditioning of components for a supplier. For individual components and markets, a more in-depth analysis of the profitability of the segment was carried out, to derive strategic approaches for the design of the business field in Europe.

A public rail infrastructure manager (terminal and tracks) envisages further business development and better financial positioning. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to submit an application on increasing track fees - based on an in depth status analysis - to the federal railway authority on behalf of the company.
Customer: Logistic company
The European liberalisation of railway traffic allows the utilisation of the infrastructure by private railway transportation enterprises also across national borders. However, as opposed to the state railways, the regional railways cannot make use of the simplified common shipping procedure but are subject to the regulating procedures of the common / community shipping procedure. With this report a recommendation was developed for procedural management under the existing conditions.
