Customer: Investment fonds

SCI Verkehr supported an investment fund in the acquisition of a passenger rail vehicle portfolio by preparing a value analysis for the assets concerned. In doing so, SCI Verkehr analysed the development of the transport and rail vehicle markets. The support in the due diligence process included the review of the vendor model and the inputs in the data room. In addition, SCI Verkehr determined the current and future market value of the assets using the DRC and DCF methods.

Fleet evaluation and analysis on the European leasing market

Customer: Investment company

SCI Verkehr supported an international investment company as part of a due diligence project involving the valuation of a rolling stock leasing fleet. Valuation was conducted using the DCF approach. The report included a current portfolio overview as well as an outlook on the European multiple unit and locomotive leasing market.

Market Analysis of High-Speed Rail Potential in Europe

On behalf of a vehicle manufacturer, SCI Verkehr investigated the potential for high-speed transport in Europe and - as a result - the sales of vehicles in this segment. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to assess the concept of a logistics trade fair in Hamburg, which has already taken place several times. Market and target group potential was examined and possibilities and development potentials as well as deficits were presented. Furthermore, recommendations for further action were developed for the event organiser. A precise target group analysis was essential for the clients in order to determine the basic number of potential exhibitors and/or participants and thereby to derive the realistic potential for the trade fair.

For a global manufacturer of rolling stock components, SCI Verkehr created and is continuously updating a project monitoring tool. This monitoring tool presents the data and facts essential for success and decision making. The client receives information on relevant vehicle projects and can thus develop projects and initiate necessary product developments in good time. Supply and demand analysis of locomotives with consideration of rail freight operators and freight traffic flows

SCI Verkehr analysed the development of supply and demand for mainline locomotives in Europe. The main traffic flows in intermodal transport were presented and supplemented by an analysis of the largest operators of intermodal services.

Asset valuation of new chemical tank wagons

Customer:

On behalf of an investor, SCI Verkehr prepared an asset valuation of new chemical tank wagons. SCI Verkehr valued the wagons using the income-based DCF and cost-based DRC methodology.

Evaluation of intermodal wagon fleet

Customer: Freight wagon leasing company

For supporting a freight wagon leasing company as part of a transaction of used intermodal wagons, SCI Verkehr identified current and future vehicle values of container and pocket wagons by using a DCF and DRC evaluation.

Asset valuation for a freight wagon fleet

Customer: European rail freight operator

SCI Verkehr calculated the market value of a large freight wagon fleet for a European transport operator. For this purpose, SCI analysed in detail the respective market segments relevant for the various vehicle types. The actual market value of the vehicles was evaluated based on SCI Verkehr' s Asset Value Tool.

Regional Conferences RRX

Customer: State of North Rhine-Westphalia

The Rhein-Ruhr-Express (RRX) is the most important rail project in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and, starting 2017, will even gain in significance in public perception due to beginning infrastructure expansion as well as delivery of new electric multiple units. Therefore, on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Urban Development, and Transport of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and CP Compartners, SCI Verkehr accompanied regional conferences on the topic RRX. For this purpose, SCI Verkehr examined transport-related, economic, as well as environmental benefits for the areas Rhineland, Rhine-Ruhr and Westphalia and discussed the results among experts.

Conception and realisation of a series of workshops "Optimisation in Logistics"

Customer: NEW.S

The social partner project Nordrhein-Westfälische ErnährungsWirtschaft e.V. (NEW.S) commissioned SCI Verkehr to develop a "logistics report for the food industry in NRW" last year. This includes a number of optimisation approaches and recommendations for action, which reflect the complexity of the demands on logistics in the food industry. With the series of workshops ?Optimisation in Logistics? the client wants to encourage the detailed discussion of proposed optimisation approaches and solutions. SCI Verkehr is taking over the preparation of the entire content and managing the workshop series ?Optimisation in Logistics?. This includes developing the concept, detailed planning, acquiring speakers and press relations.

Strategy development own fleet

Customer: Global player in the beverage industry

A global player in the beverage industry operates its own truck fleet in order to distribute its products in Germany. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to develop a strategy for the fleet´s further development, taking into account external influences (e.g. transport market) as well as internal structures. The process was closely coordinated with the customer and employee representatives and a joint implementation process was agreed upon.

Feasibility study on alternative drives

Customer: Public transport authority

SCI Verkehr was commissioned by a public transport authority to prepare a feasibility study on the planned use of alternatively powered rail vehicles. The focus of the analyses was on the economic feasibility of hydrogen and battery-powered trains in terms of operation, energy and infrastructure. A life cycle cost (LCC) model from SCI was applied. The aim of the study was to determine the economically and operationally optimal drive technologies against the background of the existing and future infrastructure of various networks, for example with regard to charging and refuelling processes.

Support in restructuring process in rail freight transport

Customer: Market-leading freight transport company

Against the background of the global economic and financial crisis, a short-term need for a reaction and restructuring arose for a leading company in the freight transport sector. SCI Verkehr GmbH supported the client as a professional expert in close consultation with management. We reviewed the measures developed, compiled alternative scenarios and provided professional support in the negotiations.

Process optimisation at a logistics site

Customer: Global player in the food industry

A central production and logistics site of our client showed ongoing logistical deficits: long waiting and processing times for lorries and out-of stock situations affected the performance of the site. At the same time, the client intended to integrate a smaller site from the local area, in order to raise the performance of the site concerned. SCI Verkehr was commissioned by the company management to analyse the main hurdles for a better performance of the site, present ways for improvement and, in cooperation with the company, implement the required measures. The main aim was to accelerate processing times. For this purpose it was necessary to remodel the logistical processes, together with staff on site. As part of an "operational excellence process", the consultancy and support from SCI Verkehr largely aimed towards activating employee expertise at the site. In this way, the upcoming changes in staffing were communicated and established, enabling sustainable optimisation of processes.

Preparation of a bid for commuter rail transport in northern Germany

SCI Verkehr supported the railway company in the strategic and operational preparation of a bid for transport services in northern Germany. The objective was to submit an attractive, innovative and reasonably priced bid for rail services.
