A leading chemical logistics company which maintains its own truck fleet in addition to using external capacities is looking to finalise the integration of said fleet. External acquisitions had led to a rapid expansion in fleet size and since the fleet also serves as the service department for the business units of the company, various interfaces have developed. SCI Verkehr was tasked with changing the organisational structures of the fleet and re-defining the interfaces. In addition, the next organisational model had to be scalable and usable for other acquisitions.

Market and leasing rate forecast within the scope of the acquisition of a leasing company

To support an acquisition by a large European leasing company, SCI Verkehr forecast the future development of the leasing market in Europe and the leasing rates to be expected. The individual assets were evaluated with regard to their future positioning in the market. Furthermore, SCI Verkehr carried out a forecast of the general market development and competitive situation for rolling stock leasing in Europe. Using the tried-and-tested market and leasing rate forecasts from SCI Verkehr, the investor was able to estimate the portfolio of the leasing company and thus key elements of the target?s market value.

Annual valuation of freight wagon fleet incl. demand supply analysis

Customer: European freight wagon lessor

SCI Verkehr carried out an annual valuation update for a European freight wagon fleet (intermodal wagons). The market value of the fleet was estimated based on the cost and income approach according to IVS 2020. In addition, SCI Verkehr prepared an extensive demand supply analysis for the market for intermodal wagons in Continental Europe.

Evaluation of a freight wagon fleet

SCI Verkehr evaluated the portfolio of new intermodal wagons of a European freight wagon leasing company, using the DRC and DCF methods. Supply and demand differentiated according to container and trailer transport was examined as the basis for the evaluation.

Since 2004, the social partner project Nordrhein-Westfälische ErnährungsWirtschaft e.V. (NEW.S) has been leading a continuous discussion of important logistics issues in the sector. For this reason SCI Verkehr GmbH has developed a series of workshops called ?optimisation in the logistics sector? with company representatives. For two further workshops in the spring of 2007, SCI Verkehr is taking over the entire content preparation and management. This includes concept development, detailed planning, acquiring speakers and the presentation of the workshops.

Within the scope of marketing fields of expertise for a leading German business region, the aim is to link together various fields of expertise (logistics and IT) in order to develop a settlement strategy. A German municipality is in possession of extensive track facilities at a local industrial area (industrial main track). This infrastructure has not been used for freight services for many years. In the meantime, an investment backlog has arisen, and the track systems are currently not usable. Working for Allianz pro Schiene and in co-operation with the IFEU institute in Heidelberg, SCI Verkehr is preparing the evaluation parameters for an "environmental comparison - rail transport" and their transformation to a transparent and (in view of different framework conditions) just measuring system. It is intended for use as tool for assessing railway transport companies and their rail vehicles in terms of environmental compatibility and under a public competition also as a marketing tool in favor of rail-bound transport.

Supporting a terminal operator in its appeal against the rejection of an application for funding

An application for funding by a midsized intermodal terminal operator was rejected by the authorisation authority responsible. SCI Verkehr advised the client on all important aspects of the upcoming appeal proceedings and prepared the reasoning for the appeal. Furthermore, in order to develop a strategy with optimum chances of success, SCI Verkehr gathered additional information on the chances of success of the proceedings and on the optimum course of action by means of background discussions in political circles.
