Customer: European freight railway
SCI Verkehr supported a leading European freight railway in its strategic development in the financing of rolling stock. Existing concepts of the customer were examined and developed further together with the customer in workshops and expert discussions with market participants. In an iterative process, recommendations for action for the strategy development were derived together with the customer.
Customer: Asiatic technology concern
On behalf of an Asiatic technology concern SCI Verkehr made an analysis of the railway technology market in Russia. Thereby different possibilities for a market entry were evaluated and transferred into a strategic roadmap. This roadmap contents not only adequate products and strategies for the market entry but also recommendations, which partner and which strategy are the best for a sustainable market entry in Russia and the neighboring CIS-countries.

Commercial Due Diligence for freight transport sector SCI Verkehr supported a financial investor by performing a Commercial Due Diligence (CDD) in the freight transport sector. A full CDD report was prepared, in which locomotives as well as assets and relevant markets were considered.
Customer: International leasing company
On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr analysed the market development and the demand for new electric locomotives in continental Europe as a basis for an investment decision. The development of ETCS in Europe, infrastructural development and procurements by leasing companies were taken into account for this analysis.
Customer: Rolling stock manufacturer
In this market study SCI Verkehr researched the production sites of suppliers of components for rolling stock. We made statements concerning the vertical integration of individual manufacturers and highlighted the trends in production relocation. We researched key technical data concerning engines and gears.
Customer: Globally active steel group
On behalf of a globally active steel group, SCI Verkehr analyses the worldwide demand market for wheels and wheelsets. Current and future demand is distinguished according to country markets, wheel set types and large operators in respective countries.
Customer: Rail vehicle manufacturer
On behalf of a rail vehicle manufacturer, SCI Verkehr prepared an update of an asset valuation of used shunting locomotives. The locomotives were valued using the cost-based DRC method. One focus was on the changes in the market environment, in particular price increases and product shortages.
Customer: Financier of rail vehicles
On behalf of a financier of rail vehicles, SCI Verkehr determines current asset values of a locomotive portfolio. The valuation takes into account the income-based DCF valuation methodology and additionally includes an extensive market and fleet analysis in European core markets.
Customer: Railway operator
SCI Verkehr assessed the fair value of a fleet of electric multiple units (EMU) for a passenger transport operator using the DRC method. The analysis focused on market developments in German local passenger rail transport, long-term deployment opportunities for the fleet and the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on the transport markets and companies.
Customer: State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Initiative Bahn NRW
On behalf of the "Initiative Bahn NRW" of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, SCI Verkehr conducted a study concerning the challenges of the demographic change for the local rail passenger transport in North Rhine-Westphalia. Based on previous research, SCI Verkehr developed demographic and further input parameters for a traffic prognosis concerning the local rail passenger transport up to 2030. The results of the prognosis were prepared for discussions with different players.
Customer: Allianz pro Schiene
On behalf of Allianz pro Schiene, SCI Verkehr is analysing the importance of ecological-related decision-making criteria within the German competition market for short-distance passenger rail transport. For this, environmental criteria are going to be analysed with regard to completed awards of short-distance passenger rail transport services and their future importance.
Customer: Public transport authority
SCI Verkehr was commissioned by a public transport authority to prepare a feasibility study on the planned use of alternatively powered rail vehicles. The focus of the analyses was on the economic feasibility of hydrogen and battery-powered trains in terms of operation, energy and infrastructure. A life cycle cost (LCC) model from SCI was applied. The aim of the study was to determine the economically and operationally optimal drive technologies against the background of the existing and future infrastructure of various networks, for example with regard to charging and refuelling processes.
Customer: Transport authority
SCI Verkehr evaluated the economic feasibility of the selected bids for a transport authority in the context of a procurement of new urban transport vehicles. To this purpose, SCI Verkehr evaluated the tender documents and carried out a price benchmark to determine standard market prices for e-buses and their charging infrastructure.
Customer: International consulting firm
On behalf of an international consulting firm, SCI Verkehr analysed the development of tenders for commuter rail services in Germany. In addition to an analysis of all known and planned tenders by the contracting authorities, SCI Verkehr also performed an allocation of the commuter rail vehicles currently in operation. An overview of the contract standards of all German contracting authorities was complemented by a differentiation by gross contracts and net contracts.
Customer: Global player in the beverage industry
A global player in the beverage industry is looking to optimise its logistics processes at a combined production and logistics site in Baden-Württemberg. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to re-work storage processes and logistics interfaces with other divisions such as production, distribution and sales in a collaboration with the management, works committee and employees, and to document the results afterwards.
Customer: International transport company
On behalf of an international transport company, SCI Verkehr has developed and compiled a bid for services in local rail passenger transport in southern Germany. In addition, SCI Verkehr was responsible for organisation and bid management.
Customer: Logistic company
The European liberalisation of railway traffic allows the utilisation of the infrastructure by private railway transportation enterprises also across national borders. However, as opposed to the state railways, the regional railways cannot make use of the simplified common shipping procedure but are subject to the regulating procedures of the common / community shipping procedure. With this report a recommendation was developed for procedural management under the existing conditions.
