SCI Verkehr supported an international investment company as part of a due diligence project involving the valuation of a rolling stock leasing fleet. Valuation was conducted using the DCF approach. The report included a current portfolio overview as well as an outlook on the European multiple unit and locomotive leasing market.

SCI Verkehr carried out a red flag due diligence on behalf of an investor. The target was a manufacturer of components for railway infrastructure.

As part of a re-financing of a large existing freight wagon fleet, SCI Verkehr carried out an appraisal of the assets by means of the discounted cash flow (DCF) method. The focus was set on the high number of various wagon types and the years of construction.
Customer: Rail vehicle manufacturer
On behalf of a rail vehicle manufacturer, SCI Verkehr analysed the demand for double-deck passenger coaches and multiple units up to 2030 in selected European markets. In addition to the potential for replacements, routes in passenger rail transport were assessed, which could be converted to double-deck trains in the medium and long term. The analyses are based on the SCI database.

On behalf of an international component supplier, SCI Verkehr is analysing the current total number of seats for rail vehicles in Europe, Asia and the CIS states including a development forecast up to 2010. This is regionally differentiated by individual markets and segments. The future sales volume was examined with a forecast horizon of 5 years for the following differentiated segments: DMUs and EMUs, high-speed trains and passenger coaches. The industrial company is provided with the resulting concrete statements regarding sales potentials by market region and vehicle segment.
Customer: Company for economic development
SCI Verkehr investigated a former industrial site?s suitability as a logistics site. In order to support the political and planning discussion concerning this site, SCI Verkehr compiled settlement scenarios for the various industries in which ideal types of logistics centres were modelled for the respective industries. The parameters of the models were the size of the plant, lorry transport, car transport and the number of workplaces. In addition, on the basis of the scenarios, constraints in the surrounding transport network were identified and a proposal made for optimising access to the site.
Customer: Financial service provider
On behalf of a financial service provider, SCI Verkehr assesses the current market value of pre-owned multisystem locomotives for cross-border traffic in Europe by means of DCF and DRC valuation. The focus is on identifying obsolescence risks.
Customer: Leasing company
For refinancing a rolling stock portfolio, SCI Verkehr calculated the Net Present Value (NPV). For this purpose, the individual assets in the portfolio were evaluated and the aimed leasing rates were forecast. Furthermore, SCI Verkehr carried out a review of the market-related assumptions of the refinancing prospects.
Customer: Railway undertaking
SCI Verkehr prepared a cost-based asset valuation of a portfolio of used diesel locomotives and service vehicles for rail infrastructure on behalf of a potential buyer. The appraisal serves as a benchmark for a transaction price and also contains a market review and method description according to IVS 2022.
Customer: International leading company in rail freight transport
SCI Verkehr supported a leading European rail freight transport company in central restructuring processes. For this purpose, SCI Verkehr developed own and analysed existing market expectations. At the same time, benchmarks regarding the entrepreneurial organisation of production and sales units were been developed. SCI Verkehr prepared, accompanied and evaluated the processes for implementing the restructuring.

On behalf of an investor, SCI Verkehr prepared a comprehensive market analysis for the maintenance of freight wagons. This included a review of the basic principles of maintenance, an analysis of the main trends and drivers in the market, an explanation of new technological developments and an overview of maintenance companies and their locations. A focus of the analyses was also the benchmarking of prices of maintenance periods for different wagon types and components, as well as their development.
Customer: Allianz pro Schiene
On behalf of Allianz pro Schiene, SCI Verkehr is analysing the importance of ecological-related decision-making criteria within the German competition market for short-distance passenger rail transport. For this, environmental criteria are going to be analysed with regard to completed awards of short-distance passenger rail transport services and their future importance.

Working for an interested company, all corporate and administrative as well as technical preconditions for obtaining registration as railway transport company in Poland were ascertained. The information was analysed in terms of potential for action and risks and provided in the form of a structured guide.
Customer: Global player in the food industry
In autumn 2008, a client from the food industry carried out a wide-reaching operational excellence project at one of its sites. In this project, the production and logistics (warehousing and distribution) systems were examined and various changes resolved. One of the main changes to the logistics system was an optimisation of loading during the night. SCI Verkehr supported the implementation of the changes, also operationally, and held several meetings on location in order to ensure the sustainability of the process changes.
