SCI Verkehr analysed various KPIs for the maintenance and repair of vehicles and the overhaul and reconditioning of components for a supplier. For individual components and markets, a more in-depth analysis of the profitability of the segment was carried out, to derive strategic approaches for the design of the business field in Europe.

Support of an investment decision in a freight wagon plant in Europe

For an international freight car manufacturer, SCI Verkehr analysed the attractiveness of the European freight car market with regard to an investment in a freight car plant. The study includes market, competition and customer analysis as well as the evaluation of the political framework conditions for foreign direct investment in selected countries.

Development of rail freight assets up to the year 2030

Customer: financier

On behalf of a financier, SCI Verkehr analysed the transport market and the resulting needs with regard to the procurement of new assets. In addition to the purely quantitative forecast of the transport market, a differentiation was made according to segments, corridors and changes in the (political) framework conditions. Therefore, the specifications of required assets (performance requirements, multi-system capability, etc.) for traction units were also estimated and - taking into account existing fleets - transferred into the demand forecast.

Analysis of supply volumes in the locomotive and multiple unit markets

Customer:

For an internationally active investment holding company, SCI Verkehr analysed supply volumes in the last twenty years for the locomotive and multiple unit markets. In addition, the market shares of the manufacturers in the respective segments were determined for this period.

Time series on market development of individual vehicle segments

Customer: Supplier group

On behalf of a supplier group, SCI Verkehr analyses the deliveries of rolling stock according to segments in a differentiated manner and semi-annually provides data for its strategic planning. The figures are regionally differentiated and take into account current drivers in the individual markets.

Assessment of used tank wagons in continental Europe

Customer: European leasing company

In the context of purchasing used tank wagons, SCI Verkehr assesses a fleet of compressed gas and chemical tank wagons on behalf of a European leasing company. Assessment of the wagons is conducted according to DCF and DRC methods and takes into account the wagon-specific supply and demand situation.

Asset valuation of new pressurised gas tank wagons

Customer:

On behalf of an investor, SCI Verkehr prepared an asset valuation of new pressurised gas tank freight wagons. SCI Verkehr evaluated the wagons using the income-based DCF and cost-based DRC methodology.

Value analysis of local rail transport multiple units

Customer: National credit institute

On behalf of a regional credit institute, SCI Verkehr assessed the value developments of double-deck EMUs and DMUs for operation in the German local rail transport market. The main focus was on analysing the realistic valuation of the reuse of the rolling stock during and after the concession in Germany and Europe. The value developments were determined with the aid of the SCI Asset Value Tool for rolling stock.

Analysis and assessment of the application of funds in short-distance passenger transport financing in the German states.

Customer: Allianz pro Schiene

The controlled and efficient application of provided funds is becoming ever more important in short-distance passenger transport. Within the scope of the discussion in transport politics regarding the future further development of short-distance passenger transport, it is of great interest as to what extent the funds available to the states are to be applied ?sensibly? to strengthen short-distance passenger transport. The analysis of the application of funds for short-distance passenger transport in the federal states is of particular importance. As part of the project for Allianz pro Schiene, SCI Verkehr examined the application of funds and evaluated this in a publicly accessible final report.

Support for the Logistics.NRW Competence Network

Customer: LOG-IT Club e.V.

In April 2018, the Competence Network Logistics.NRW was launched as an innovation and partner network of the state of NRW. The network's activities are strongly focused on the topics of innovation and digitalisation. SCI Verkehr organises all technical and organisational activities for the LOG-IT Club e.V. in close cooperation with the German Association of Transport and Logistics.

Conception and implementation of two workshops "Optimisation in Logistics"

Customer: NEW.S

In 2004, SCI Verkehr developed a ?logistics report for the food industry in NRW? for the social partner project Nordrhein-Westfälische ErnährungsWirtschaft e.V. (NEW.S). This includes a number of optimisation approaches and recommendations for action, which reflects the complexity of the demands on logistics in the food industry. Since 2005, NEW.S and SCI Verkehr GmbH have been carrying out a series of workshops entitled ?Optimisation in Logistics? with company representatives in order to intensify the dialogue about these issues in the sector. For two further workshops in autumn 2006, SCI Verkehr is taking over the entire content preparation and management. This includes concept development, detailed planning, acquiring speakers and the presentation of the workshops.

A global player in the beverage industry operates its own truck fleet in order to distribute its products in Germany. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to develop a strategy for the fleet´s further development, taking into account external influences (e.g. transport market) as well as internal structures. The process was closely coordinated with the customer and employee representatives and a joint implementation process was agreed upon.

Supporting a work group on changes to the production and logistics infrastructure

Customer: Global player in the food industry

Changes in the client?s product and packaging mix led to an open discussion about the site structure in both production and logistics. Not only the future scale and location of the sites were up for discussion, but also the issue of the function of individual areas of production and logistics. SCI Verkehr hosted the dialogue between the employees and employer on these matters and incorporated its experience in supporting site changes into the discussion process.
