SCI Verkehr conducted a market and customer analysis for ECM services on behalf of a service provider for rail vehicle maintenance. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with various market participants. As a result, SCI Verkehr determined the market potential for its customer.
Customer: Infrastructure fund
SCI Verkehr supports an infrastructure fund on a due diligence process. SCI is responsible for the commercial due diligence report with focus on freight wagons. It provides the customer with market information and analysis, forecast, as well as analysis of the business plan, including verification of input parameters and suggestions for improvements in the calculation model. Intensive working sessions with the customer and other advisors are necessary to successfully conclude the process. Moreover, SCI has provided an independent valuation of the freight wagon fleet.
Customer: Vehicle manufacturer
Commissioned by a globally active industrial manufacturer, the maintenance capacity of the short-distance passenger transport market in Germany is analysed and assessed. In addition, existing and prospective market access conditions are evaluated. Recommendations for a successful strategic positioning as well as different courses of action for the company are also being compiled.

On behalf of a global railway technology company, SCI Verkehr analysed the worldwide market for rail vehicle leasing and the involved players. SCI Verkehr compiled a detailed fact sheet with all relevant characteristics such as vehicle fleet and ownership structure. The final document is used as a basis for the strategic alignment of the railway technology company in this market.
Customer: Globally active manufacturer of wheelsets
On behalf of a manufacturer of wheelsets, SCI Verkehr analysed supply and demand of the global component market for wheelsets. SCI additionally focused on 30 foreign markets and reviewed their appeal to the client based on various different indicators.
Customer: Worldwide technology group
On behalf of a supplier of rail vehicles, SCI Verkehr conducted a global analysis of established and anticipated refurbishment and modernisation projects of passenger vehicles including the relevant players and measures.
Customer: Investment bank
SCI Verkehr was commissioned by an investor to appraise various fleets of Electric Multiple units (EMUs) and Light Rail vehicles (LRVs) using the replacement cost method according to IVS 2020. A particular focus was on the analysis of redeployment of the fleets.
Customer: Specialised commercial bank
SCI Verkehr supported a major European bank specialising in investments in rail transport in developing/modifying a valuation tool used for the valuation of assets as collateral security when granting loans. Both vehicle-related and market parameters were integrated in the valuation and a valuation tool developed in 2004 by SCI Verkehr was revised and improved.
Customer: International leasing company
On behalf of an international leasing company, SCI Verkehr identified, evaluated and verified by means of expert interviews the key factors (especially the manufacturer landscape) influencing the development of the price of rail passenger vehicles. We then forecast the price development for the period 2008?2012 and derived scenarios for the period 2012?2017. Using the results, SCI was able to provide the client with relevant recommendations for future action.
Customer: Logistic company
The first step is based on a master plan developed by SCI Verkehr. The plan outlines how single vehicle transport could be developed in North Rhine-Westphalia by creating a Network Organisation for Railway Logistics (O.N.E. North Rhine-Westphalia). The publication and market positioning are agreed upon in close cooperation with the participants and are presented at the 2002 VDV Annual convention. They are accompanied by the production of necessary presentation documents, a brochure, a topic-specific mailing to decision makers in the region and potential cargo transport clients in North Rhine-Westphalia. A customer drop-in center for the coordination of these activities is opened.
Customer: Trans-shipping company in North Rhine-Westphalia
Over the past several years, a mid-sized trans-shipping company has experienced substantial growth at its KV trans-shipping terminal. SCI Verkehr drafted an application for funding that would enable further expansion of the terminal. The application process included contact with government authorities. The result is still pending.
Customer: Society for the promotion of economic development
The aim of the consulting activities is the development of a multi-industry target client analysis for a planned logistics park in North Rhine-Westphalia. The preparation of location marketing activities is also part of the goal. The main focus of our services is to develop market knowledge about the target industries. Relevant actors and potential companies within the identified industries will be ascertained. These will be primary contact persons for location marketing.

On the basis of its own preliminary studies, SCI Verkehr, together with partners, is supporting a globally active logistics group in the development of its own rail strategy. The activities take place within the framework of the implementation of the group's CO2 targets. Internal quantities are analysed and concrete strategic approaches to shifting are developed.
Customer:
SCI Verkehr carried out an investment and profitability calculation for a service provider operating in the rail sector. This related to an investment in track and hall infrastructure as well as railroad engineering equipment. The profitability analysis was carried out for the investment and operation over 30 years.
Customer: Railway transport company
On behalf of a railway transport company, SCI Verkehr compiled an independent assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of various vehicle options in connection with a local transport tender. The realistic consideration of the potential operation of new and/or second-hand vehicles played an important role in this evaluation.
Customer: Global player in the food industry
When centralising three workshops into one new site, our client had not implemented an active change management strategy. The processes and areas of work taken over from the old locations led to a significant drop in output at the new site. First of all, SCI Verkehr analysed and documented the existing workflows in a task force including management and the works council. At the same time, the team from SCI Verkehr identified and initiated necessary changes and oversaw the implementation on site. The aim of the project was to introduce staff to the new conditions in order to establish the adapted working areas and processes for the long term.
Customer: Market-leading freight transport company
Against the background of the global economic and financial crisis, a short-term need for a reaction and restructuring arose for a leading company in the freight transport sector. SCI Verkehr GmbH supported the client as a professional expert in close consultation with management. We reviewed the measures developed, compiled alternative scenarios and provided professional support in the negotiations.

On behalf of an international transport company, SCI Verkehr took on the management of a project entailing reorganising the sales department. The project is aimed at developing a uniform sales organisation as well as professionalising the public image. SCI Verkehr supports the customer in organising the project and in terms of content-related sparring.
