Customer: Global player in the food industry
A global player in the food industry intends to close several German production and logistics sites as part of a realignment of the corporate structure. Furthermore, the company plans to reorganize commercial departments. SCI Verkehr examined the plans and accompanied negotiations for a reconciliation of interests. In this context, alternative scenarios are developed and moderated.

On behalf of a financial investor, SCI Verkehr conducted a commercial due diligence on a globally active railway supplier. Focus was put on the analysis of future development potential of the core markets as well as the future expected competitive situation of the target. Moreover, a business plan entailing the assumptions of the management regarding the target´s development opportunities was examined.

On behalf of an industrial client, SCI Verkehr analysed and evaluated various companies which are worth considering for a cooperation in the field of after sales services. In addition to the product portfolio, particularly economic figures are of importance.
Customer: Railway vehicle manufacturer
On behalf of a railway vehicle manufacturer, SCI Verkehr created a continuously maintained project-monitoring tool by means of which data and facts critical for success and decision-making are depicted. The customer receives information on relevant vehicle projects and is able to introduce necessary product developments in time. Current results are retrievable at all times from a customer-specific internet platform.

SCI Verkehr provides market information on the development of the rail freight transport market in Europe for a leasing company’s strategic alignment and examines the market environment of the rail freight transport market in Germany by means of a PESTEL analysis.
Customer: Financial investor
To support an investment decision, SCI Verkehr compiled a market overview of demand and supply of electric locomotives in central Europe and used it to determine the future market demand for locomotives. For this, SCI Verkehr developed a forecast of the most important freight groups as well as an estimation of the future competitive development.
Customer: Rolling stock investor
On behalf of an investor, SCI Verkehr determined the current value of a freight wagon fleet comprising various UIC types. The valuation was carried out using the cost-based RC method according to IVS 2020 and takes into account the results of a supply and demand analysis of each wagon type.
Customer: Railway transport company
For the internal evaluation of a financing project for dual-system EMUs, a transport company needed a vehicle evaluation by SCI Verkehr. The focus of the evaluation was set on the current price benchmark, the value development as well as the analysis of possible secondary markets for multiple units. The calculation of the Fair Value was based on a DRC approach. Various vehicle versions were taken into consideration.
Customer: Locomotive leasing company
SCI Verkehr conducted an update of the valuation of a large locomotive fleet owned by a European leasing company. The fleet comprises diesel and heavy electric locomotives as well as shunting locomotives used in various Central European countries. The specific focus was on monitoring and updating the inputs as well as a valuation of the current market situation.
Customer: Hans Böckler Foundation
On behalf of the Hans-Böckler Foundation, SCI Verkehr analysed the industrial and operational challenges and development corridors of the railway industry in Germany. The focus of the analysis was placed on the comprehensive assessment of the German railway industry, an evaluation of the main sales regions as well as important market drivers and trends. Based on these values, SCI Verkehr identified development corridors for supporting the railway industry. The results of the study were also incorporated in the so-called "Rail Summit" of the federal government in the summer of 2015.
Customer: Allianz pro Schiene e.V.
SCI Verkehr developed a method for considering environmental criteria when valuating rolling stock. This is especially important for credit providers for the purpose of performing risk assessments when financing rolling stock. The method was developed within the scope of a project of the Federal Ministry of the Environment for Allianz pro Schiene e.V. in cooperation with HSH Nordbank and IZT in Berlin.
Customer: Baden-Württemberg Department of Trade and Industry
The logistics sector is one of the leading sectors in Germany. For a state like Baden-Württemberg, the strengths of which lie in a number of technological and industrial sectors such as micro-system technology, mechanical engineering and the automobile sector, logistics are of particular relevance as a trans-sectional function. At the same time, the past focus on purely technological issues has led to logistics not being perceived as a core segment. The Baden-Württemberg Department of Trade and Industry has therefore assigned SCI Verkehr compile a strength/weakness analysis regarding logistics in Baden-Württemberg. The objective of the study is to highlight the importance of the industry and identify obstacles for Baden-Württemberg in order to provide the industrial companies situated there today with the optimum conditions for their day-to-day (logistical) work. As a result, SCI Verkehr is going to formulate a logistics strategy for Baden-Württemberg and identify potential flagship projects.
Customer: Infrastructure fund
SCI Verkehr supported a potential investor with the analysis of a rail freight operator active in the intermodal segment. SCI Verkehr developed an outside-in business plan based on public information as well as in-house expertise about this business. SCI Verkehr provided detailed assumptions and parameters for three business divisions: container transport (rail and road), intermodal terminal operations (internal and external) as well as fleet management (locomotive and freight wagons)
Customer: Railway undertaking
On behalf of a railway undertaking, SCI Verkehr is analysing the effects of the introduction of Digital Automatic Coupling (DAK) on the performance of rail freight transport. As part of a meta-study, SCI Verkehr summarises the results of various studies on the DAK and its effects in line and shunting operations and evaluates them with regard to an increase in capacity after the successful migration of the DAK after 2030.
Customer: Logistics Group
Together with partners, SCI Verkehr is supporting a globally active logistics group in the strategic reorientation of its transports towards more rail transport. The activities are taking place in the context of implementing the group's CO2 targets. In the process, the relevant transport markets are analysed and, as a result, options are examined, e.g. for the development of own capacities, partnerships or acquisitions.
Customer: Stadtentwicklungsbehörde der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg
SCI Verkehr has supported a railway transport company in compiling a competitive wettbewerbsfähigen transport offer. We have compiled of all important documents as well as a marketing-strategic consultancy for compiling the offer. The client has been awarded the contract.
Customer: Midsized brewery
A midsized brewery planned to make comprehensive changes to its logistical structures based upon the expertise of an external advisor. This mainly concerned the warehouses at the production site. SCI Verkehr carried out a cross-check of the assumptions and calculations. Furthermore, SCI Verkehr accompanied the dialogue process between the works council and management on the basis of a technical expertise.
