Customer: Investment fonds

SCI Verkehr supported an investment fund in the acquisition of a passenger rail vehicle portfolio by preparing a value analysis for the assets concerned. In doing so, SCI Verkehr analysed the development of the transport and rail vehicle markets. The support in the due diligence process included the review of the vendor model and the inputs in the data room. In addition, SCI Verkehr determined the current and future market value of the assets using the DRC and DCF methods.

On behalf of an international consulting firm, SCI Verkehr analysed the current vehicle value and future market for passenger coaches and locomotives up to the year 2014. The analysis was complemented by a list of the current distribution shares of leading European rail vehicle manufacturers.

Analysis of the market for control command and signalling in Poland

Customer: Industry

As part of a study SCI Verkehr analyses the market for control command and signalling in Poland. This study compares and contrasts manufactures of components and systems, identifies product and price developments and maps the trends and differences in the procurement processes of PKP and other railway infrastructure companies.

On behalf of a prominent European investment bank, SCI Verkehr has conducted a valuation of a French bi-mode multiple units fleet. The replacement cost methodology has been employed in line with IVS 2020.

Asset valuation of diesel multiple unit

SCI Verkehr calculated the fair value of a diesel multiple unit (DMU) on behalf of a transport operator. The value was determined using the cost approach for tangible assets (DRC method). For this purpose, a benchmark was carried out to determine a current replacement value and an analysis of market potential for DMU.

Customer: Federal research institution

SCI Verkehr supported a research institution of the EBA in considering the further development of single wagonload transport in Germany with a special focus on innovation. Two other management consultancies supported the project on a subcontract basis.

RAILTEST- Examination of European testing facilities.

Customer: European Commission

In cooperation with European consulting and research establishments (ARRC (UK); ERRI (the Netherlands); Holland Railconsult (the Netherlands)), all testing facilities in Europe are examined, as are the potential synergies between them. SCI Verkehr emphasises the investigation of testing facilities in Germany, Switzerland and Austria and is carrying out a comprehensive synergy analysis of all European facilities.

On behalf of an investor, SCI Verkehr prepared a comprehensive market analysis for the maintenance of freight wagons. This included a review of the basic principles of maintenance, an analysis of the main trends and drivers in the market, an explanation of new technological developments and an overview of maintenance companies and their locations. A focus of the analyses was also the benchmarking of prices of maintenance periods for different wagon types and components, as well as their development.

Reorganisation of logistical and administrative processes at storage facilities

Customer: Commercial company

An important German commercial company gradually bundled its storage structures (five locations) into one central company unit. Within the course of the integration of the fourth location into the new structures, administrative and logistical processes had to be standardised and prepared for a later ISO certification. SCI Verkehr has organised an operational excellence process with management, local managers and staff to develop the best possible solution for the organisation. In this process new standardised procedures have been developed, documented and then introduced as compulsory. SCI Verkehr has overseen the implementation of the new working methods at several locations on-site.

Model corridor Rotterdam - Genoa

Customer: Global player in the rail industry

The Rotterdam - Genoa axis is going to be developed into the first major European corridor to use ETCS/ERTMS. SCI Verkehr assisted a leading industrial company in developing the research project for testing ETCS/ERTMS. We analysed the assistance criteria and evaluated them for the concrete project concept, we identified and brought in project partners, compiled the necessary application documents and accompanying documents in cooperation with the client and ensured communication with funding institutions.
