Based on an upstream market analysis of selected European rail vehicle markets, submarkets are prioritised and development scenarios with external and internal growth potentials are elaborated. Recommendations are derived for the step-by-step implementation of the strategy.

On behalf of a component manufacturer, SCI Verkehr developed a market potential analysis for a rolling stock component based on the accessible market in OEM business as well as sales potentials of the components in after-sales business.

SCI Verkehr supported an infrastructure fund in the acquisition of a rail vehicle leasing company by preparing a commercial due diligence report (CDD). SCI Verkehr analysed the development of the transport and rail vehicle markets, customer competitors and evaluated the complete rail vehicle fleet. In addition, SCI Verkehr carried out a determination of the current and future market value of the assets.
Customer: European freight wagon manufacturer and maintenance provider
SCI Verkehr supplied data on the freight wagon market in Europe to a European maintenance provider and freight wagon manufacturer. In addition to information on the fleet composition of individual fleet managers, data on the purchase price development for new freight wagons in Continental Europe was delivered.
Customer: International manufacturer of metal components for the construction, mechanical engineering and vehicle industry
SCI Verkehr evaluated and analysed the European market for bogies on behalf of an international manufacturer of metal components for the construction, mechanical engineering and vehicle industry. The component manufacturer contracted SCI Verkehr to provide support in the acquisition of a European bogie manufacturer. The main focus of SCI Verkehr?s activities in this project was set on the evaluation of the future market opportunities for special bogies in cross-border transport.

On behalf of a supplier group in the rail vehicle business, SCI Verkehr prepares market data for strategic business segment planning on a yearly basis. This encompasses the differentiation and analysis of market volumes and underlying drivers based on vehicle segments as well as world market regions.
Customer: European leasing company
On behalf of a European leasing company, SCI Verkehr carried out an asset valuation for refinancing 6-axle diesel locomotives. The current market values of the locomotives were determined by using the capitalised earnings method taking into consideration the levels of supply and demand.
Customer: Leasing company
On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr determines fair market value and future value-over-time of a new DMU fleet. Valuation is conducted by means of the DRC method. Special focus is put on the benchmark of the purchase and assessment of guarantees given by authorities. The results are summarised in a report.
Customer: International leasing company
On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr valued a rail vehicle portfolio consisting of passenger vehicles and freight locomotives. SCI Verkehr prepared an update of the existing DCF valuation according to IVS 2022, focusing on changes in the financial structure and their impact on purchase prices and lease rates.

SCI Verkehr supported a research institution of the EBA in considering the further development of single wagonload transport in Germany with a special focus on innovation. Two other management consultancies supported the project on a subcontract basis.
Customer: Cluster management of a German region
Regional management NordHessen GmbH tasked SCI Verkehr with developing a study regarding the further development of its own cluster work. Statistical data (sales and as job market data) as well as the local companies in the mobility industry are included in this. The client expects to be able to draw conclusions regarding their own work from the study.

SCI Verkehr assists the works council of a large food / logistics company in the assessment and analysis of structural measures by the company and supports the development of alternative (logistics) concepts.
Customer: Leasing company
SCI Verkehr has determined maintenance costs for passenger coaches as input for a business plan for a young leasing company. For this purpose, the life cycle costs for different wagon types and operating scenarios were calculated.
Customer: European railway company
On behalf of a railway transport company, SCI Verkehr prepares a growth strategy for the European market. In this context, specific potentials for the company in terms of PSO contracts as well as in open access are assessed with regards to feasibility and economic efficiency. All parts of value creation through transport services are considered. As a result, SCI Verkehr outlined different scenarios of market entry.
Customer: Rolling stock manufacturer
SCI Verkehr supported an Asian manufacturer of rolling stock in a European tram tender process. This included an analysis of the tender documents and preparatory background talks as well as the recommendation of a suitable product and project strategy.
Customer: Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr AöR (Transportation authority)
"Circle Line" is the first rail transport project in Germany to be realised primarily as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). In a consortium comprising DEPFA BANK, the law firm Kapellmann und Partner and the engineering office Vössing GmbH, SCI Verkehr is subjecting the plans to a "PPP suitability test" and preparing the realisation of the first construction phase up to the tendering procedure. SCI Verkehr is carrying out the project management and market research as well as addressing potential interested parties.
Customer: Global player in the food industry
In the context of restructuring, a global enterprise in the food industry intends to close a logistics site and several production sites in Germany as well as to reorganise further core departments. SCI Verkehr surveys the plans and supports the process of negotiating a reconciliation of interests. Also, alternative scenarios are developed and moderated in this context.
