On behalf of a systems supplier, SCI Verkehr carried out a market screening of the integrated system "railway technology? to evaluate new business fields for the company. The business fields to be identified were to be evaluated both by their market development and by their synergies with existing business fields. As a result, a list was derived of possible M&A targets that exist in the business fields identified and fit in with the company or its path for expansion.

A medium-sized logistics company with an international focus operates its own technical department for its fleet and logistics division. SCI Verkehr was tasked with analysing the interface between the technical department and the operative units of the company and optimizing the respective processes. This included the development and implementation of a service level agreement.

On behalf of a leading component manufacturer, SCI Verkehr analysed demand, potential market volume and entrance requirements for innovative freight wagon components. For this, information from the SCI database was evaluated and expert interviews with wagon keepers were conducted.

In the administrative districts of the southern metropolitan area of Hamburg, there is significant potential for the settlement of logistics-related businesses because of the proximity to the sea ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven. The administrative districts therefore wanted to develop recommendations for the development of business locations for the logistics sector in the southern metropolitan area of Hamburg together in the model project KOPLAS. Together with planning company Planquadrat Dortmund, SCI Verkehr developed recommendations for the regional authorities and construction planning authorities for the development of business locations for the logistics sector which are compatible with the geographical area. Starting from a demand analysis, SCI Verkehr identified the general and specific requirements of the logistics sector as well as regional planning on the locations and potential fields of conflict. From this, concrete recommendations were derived and usable guidelines compiled for settlements of this type. In this way, the districts concerned and the state of Lower Saxony as the provider of funding received a generally applicable instrument for future location planning in the logistics sector.

On behalf of a manufacturer of rail car components, SCI Verkehr created a continually updated project monitoring. This enables the mapping of success- and decision-critical data. The client receives information about relevant rolling stock projects, therefore being able to initiate necessary product developments promptly. The latest results are available on a client-specific internet platform at any time.

SCI appraised a locomotive portfolio and delivered a description of the market with a focus on international transport.

For the internal evaluation of a financing project for dual-system EMUs, a transport company needed a vehicle evaluation by SCI Verkehr. The focus of the evaluation was set on the current price benchmark, the value development as well as the analysis of possible secondary markets for multiple units. The calculation of the Fair Value was based on a DRC approach. Various vehicle versions were taken into consideration.

On behalf of a financial investor, SCI Verkehr developed a valuation of electric multiple units used in suburban transport. Special emphasis was placed on the recoverability of the assets and possibilities for reuse of the vehicles.

The situation for inland waterway crafts in Poland was researched and analysed for the BMVBW, which was examining the situation of inland waterway crafts in selected European countries. The report describes the waterway network, craft fleets, relevant inland waterway craft companies and transport services in Poland. The profitability of inland waterway crafts is generally represented on the basis of specific individual cases.
Customer: Allianz pro Schiene e.V.
SCI Verkehr developed a method for considering environmental criteria when valuating rolling stock. This is especially important for credit providers for the purpose of performing risk assessments when financing rolling stock. The method was developed within the scope of a project of the Federal Ministry of the Environment for Allianz pro Schiene e.V. in cooperation with HSH Nordbank and IZT in Berlin.
Customer: Public sector
On behalf of national and regional authorities, SCI Verkehr examined the new development and upgrading of a testing centre for rolling stock and infrastructure components in an EU country. This primarily involved the analysis of future test requirements and test potential as well as transferring this information into a technical/economical analysis to identify the optimum upgrade level for the current volume of funding.
Customer: Industrial company
The contract between DB Netz AG and an industrial company concerning the operation of a siding was unilaterally terminated and is going to be replaced by a new agreement to terms in line with the market. SCI Verkehr advised the siding operator on all technical and strategic issues, independently conducted the dialogue with DB Netz AG, reviewed all essential documents and took part in the official negotiations for the contract.
Customer: Midsized producer in the food industry
A midsized company in the food industry had to generate significant savings in the production processes in order to remain competitive in the market. SCI Verkehr identified saving potential in production and hosted the subsequent dialogue between the works council and management.

Comparison of specific cost types to those of other commuter rail systems in Germany by means of defined, meaningful benchmarks. Identification of cost reduction potentials, possible ways ans implications of their realisation. Support to the client in the design of the transport service contract.
