Switzerland / RhB tenders up to 121 new passenger coaches

Swiss regional rail transport operator Rhätische Bahn (RhB) has published a tender for the procurement of 37 to 121 passenger and panorama coaches of the EW V series. The contract is also to include an option for up to 50 vehicles of each design. Bids can be submitted until 25th October 2021.

Germany / Reconstruction of rail infrastructure after floods to cost EUR 1.3 billion

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) announced on 22nd July 2021 that the reconstruction of the railway infrastructure after the extreme flooding in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and other parts of Germany will cost around EUR 1.3 billion. The reconstruction of 60 stations and railway yards will cost EUR 480 million, the construction of 600 km of track and other work on the network about EUR 780 million. The Eifel line (Cologne - Trier) is particularly affected, and there are restrictions on the lines between Düsseldorf, Hagen, Dortmund, Cologne, Aachen, Hürth, Bonn and Sinzig. Most of the lines can be rebuilt by the end of 2021, but it will take two to three years for the heavily damaged lines.

Poland / Pesa records revenues of EUR 427 million in 2020

In its 2020 financial year, Polish rolling stock manufacturer Pesa recorded revenues of EUR 427 million (PLN 1.96 billion), which is a significant increase from the EUR 283 million generated in 2019. Moreover, Pesa recorded EBITDA of EUR 1.1 million, after EUR -110 million in 2019. Overall, the company ended 2020 with a net loss of EUR 16.1 million. Pesa\'s financial debt to unrelated parties in 2020 due to its bank loans and borrowings increased compared to 2019, reaching EUR 266 million in capital and EUR 6.6 million in interest at the end of 2020. In March 2020, long-term debt financing was established in agreement with existing creditors. The subject of this agreement is the granting of a revolving loan of up to EUR 163 million. Pesa also announced a new strategy and future product portfolio.

Ireland / BYD ADL and NTA sign framework contract for up to 200 electric buses

On 19th July 2021, Scottish bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and its Chinese partner BYD signed a framework contract with the Irish National Transport Authority (NTA) for the delivery of up to 200 battery-electric buses of the BYD ADL Enviro200EV series. An initial firm order for 45 buses was agreed at the same time, with deliveries starting in 2022 for services in Athlone and the greater Dublin area. The framework contract will run for up to five years. The buses will be 12 m long and can be specified in several configurations to suit different operational requirements, including a version with two doorways, a wheelchair space and a dedicated area for the accommodation of at least one unfolded pram or pushchair.
