Digitalisation in the rail sector is entering a decisive phase. Following years of isolated solutions and pilot projects, the industry is now transitioning towards efficient applications that accelerate processes and reduce costs. “Digitalisation is no longer an optional future topic in the rail sector, but a fundamental prerequisite for managing rising complexity and demand,” says Maria Leenen of SCI Verkehr. “Rail operators and infrastructure managers are facing substantial investment requirements in digital solutions. At the same time, there are significant regional differences between newly built systems, for example in Asia, and legacy networks such as those in Europe,” adds Dr Volker Hentschel co-author of the new Multi-Client Study, “Digital Solutions in the Railway Sector 2026: Market Potential and Outlook”, analyses market potential, applications and structural challenges across the entire value chain.
