In the liberalised market for maintenance services, industrial companies as well as operators are increasingly working for third parties. SCI Verkehr assisted a client in optimizing their range of maintenance services for third parties. The focus was on an analysis of the current market and competitive situation in selected European countries.

A global player in the beverage industry is planning to restructure its IT and support departments and subsequently establish them in Europe. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to review and further develop this strategy, and to accompany the negotiations with the employee representatives.

SCI Verkehr supported an investment company in its acquisition of a railway industry company. The focus of SCI Verkehr?s activities, within the framework of a due diligence process, was the analysis of current and future market performance of the company to be acquired against the backdrop of the main development trends in the market and with regard to competition. The plausibility of the seller?s assumptions was critically checked using SCI Verkehr?s own market estimates. SCI Verkehr then strategically assessed the opportunities and risks for the buyer.

On behalf of a system provider, SCI Verkehr analysed the market potential for new local transport systems. In the process, projects currently in the conception or planning stage were examined for their likelihood of realisation as well as possible technical solutions.
Customer: Russian railway industry group
SCI Verkehr analysed the worldwide markets for wheelsets including in-depth information on selected countries. SCI Verkehr developed a forecast in the OEM and AS segments. The main focus of the survey was on wheelset production and maintenance technology.
Customer: Bank group
On behalf of an international bank group, SCI Verkehr appraised a large fleet of used freight wagons within a sale and lease back transaction. SCI Verkehr analysed the competitive situation of the freight wagons in the market and conducted an appraisal based on earning power and asset value approaches.
Customer: Investment company
On behalf of an investment company, SCI Verkehr carried out a valuation update for a portfolio of electric mainline locomotives and diesel shunting locomotives. In determining the value according to the capitalised earnings method, SCI Verkehr also relied on the expert results on the technical condition of the assets. These were determined in on-site analyses by a technical expert.
Customer: International bank
On behalf of a refinancing bank, SCI Verkehr determined the current value of a rail freight fleet. The value assessment of these vehicles, which are operated on the Iberian peninsula, was based on the cost-based DRC assessment approach, and considered the results of a supply and demand analysis for locomotives and freight wagons.
Customer: Logistik Initiative Hamburg e.V.
SCI produces an annual evaluation of data on the general economic situation of companies in the logistics sector in Hamburg. The data is compared with the SCI/LOGISTIKBAROMETER and thus placed in a nationwide context. Members' assessments of the work of the commissioning initiative are also surveyed.

The North Rhine Westphalia export campaign for the Central and Eastern European countries is supporting the NRW companies engaged in the PPP Structure in entering the markets in Central and Eastern Europe with focus on Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, and Romania. By means of specific market information and contact networking, organisation of political support, assistance with project acquisition and search for cooperation partners in the target countries, consulting and assistance in conjunction with financing and aid concepts, in particular through European programs, assistance at location by means of own coordination offices in the countries, the market entry in the target countries of the participating NRW companies is to be made easier; as a contribution to improving the competitive edge of the NRW region in conjunction with the expansion of the EU towards the east. On behalf of an international consulting firm, SCI Verkehr analysed the development of tenders for commuter rail services in Germany. In addition to an analysis of all known and planned tenders by the contracting authorities, SCI Verkehr also performed an allocation of the commuter rail vehicles currently in operation. An overview of the contract standards of all German contracting authorities was complemented by a differentiation by gross contracts and net contracts.

SCI Verkehr has determined maintenance costs for passenger coaches as input for a business plan for a young leasing company. For this purpose, the life cycle costs for different wagon types and operating scenarios were calculated.
Customer: Operator
Checking the plausibility of a plan to reduce capacity and close sites for heavy maintenance. Preparing recommendations for the next steps with the objective of maintaining as many competitive jobs in the maintenance plants as possible.
Customer: Global player in the food industry
When centralising three workshops into one new site, our client had not implemented an active change management strategy. The processes and areas of work taken over from the old locations led to a significant drop in output at the new site. First of all, SCI Verkehr analysed and documented the existing workflows in a task force including management and the works council. At the same time, the team from SCI Verkehr identified and initiated necessary changes and oversaw the implementation on site. The aim of the project was to introduce staff to the new conditions in order to establish the adapted working areas and processes for the long term.
Customer: Medium-sized forwarding company
A medium-sized forwarding company is planning to extend its existing railways siding and to improve it by setting up a handling hall. In order to construct these facilities, the company will seek governmental subsidies from the sidings track support programme of the Federal Republic of Germany. SCI Verkehr was commissioned to take a leading part in supporting the company´s application.
