We support our business partners in optimising their processes and evaluating their assets. We help to analyse markets and develop sustainable and tailor-made strategies for the future. Customer: European freight railway
SCI Verkehr supported a leading European freight railway in its strategic development in the financing of rolling stock. Existing concepts of the customer were examined and developed further together with the customer in workshops and expert discussions with market participants. In an iterative process, recommendations for action for the strategy development were derived together with the customer.
Customer: International rolling stock manufacturer
Following on from an analysis of the European rolling stock market, SCI Verkehr developed a market entry strategy for double-deck passenger coaches on behalf of a globally active rolling stock manufacturer. The strategic recommendation was based upon the product portfolio already existing, taking into consideration the railway companies, regional transport authorities and existing competitive products. As a result, a basic vehicle was defined which incorporates the main technical and economic success criteria for double-deck rolling stock.
Customer: leasing company
On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr is analysing the demand for assets in European rail transport. The developments in both rail freight and passenger transport up to the year 2030 are examined more closely in order to derive specific requirements in the locomotive and multiple unit segment.
Customer: Railway Undertaking
SCI Verkehr has made a presentation for the corporate board of a large European Railway Undertaking with focus on the recent developments and trends for the rail freight transport market. This includes the recent effects of Covid-19 and war in Ukraine as well as the role of innovations and ESG (Environmental Social Governance) in the future market development.
Customer: Private sector
On behalf of an international component supplier, SCI Verkehr is analysing the current total number of seats for rail vehicles in Europe, Asia and the CIS states including a development forecast up to 2010. This is regionally differentiated by individual markets and segments. The future sales volume was examined with a forecast horizon of 5 years for the following differentiated segments: DMUs and EMUs, high-speed trains and passenger coaches. The industrial company is provided with the resulting concrete statements regarding sales potentials by market region and vehicle segment.
Customer: Industrial company
Despite all hopes for vehicle standardisation, light rail vehicles and trams are still being procured in small lot sizes and to individual specifications. The classic manufacturing concepts are often insufficient for this. The project involves assessing the marketability of a new vehicle construction strategy through systematic analysis of the customer requirements and concepts by means of a multi-stage survey. SCI Verkehr is deriving from this the chances and risks of such a business model, examining the structural and technical design of the vehicle concept using customer requirements and also evaluating the profitability. A suitable marketing strategy is derived from the results of these examination steps.
Customer: Leasing company
On behalf of a leasing company, SCI Verkehr determines the current and expected future market value for modern multi-system locomotives. SCI Verkehr conducts an extensive analysis of the locomotives and their supply and demand and also evaluates the service of such locomotives in various European countries.
Customer: European rolling stock lessor
SCI Verkehr has conducted a market study on the topic of battery multiple units (BEMU) on behalf of a major European lessor. In particular, the supply and demand side as well as possible risk factors in the procurement of a BEMU fleet were examined. Part of the analysis is the consideration of re-deployment scenarios after 15 years as well as an explicit vehicle evaluation according to the IVS standard.
Customer: Financial services company
Since vehicles themselves can serve as assets in the financing of railway vehicles, thus making favourable financing options possible, ascertaining their economic value is extremely important. SCI Verkehr examined the worldwide market for rolling stock in order to determine the benefits, territorial possibilities, and costs related to recycling used railway vehicles. Rail-mounted vehicles of different categories were put to a general LCC/RAM analysis, added by verifying well-known used vehicle transactions. The results were based both on the evaluation of secondary sources and interviews with experts. The study?s objective was a standardized evaluation for assets.

[in metres] and concrete-catenary poles [in units] in Germany, France, Poland, the Netherlands and Sweden by 2020 as a foundation for a reliable strategic planning.
Customer: Global player in the food industry
Our client took over a site previously operated by a service provider and at the beginning of 2008 integrated it into its network of sites across Germany. This integration included major changes to the processes and the IT system which had to be adapted to the requirements of the new owner. At the same time, the production and distribution volume increased substantially, as well as production exchange with other sites. These changes led to overworking and uncertainty among staff and consequently considerable deficits in the site?s performance. Within the scope of the "operational excellence" process, SCI Verkehr led and accompanied the modelling of new logistical processes with staff and company management. The consultancy process focused on using the existing employee know-how in order to achieve a higher level of acceptance for the necessary changes and thus a sustainable improvement of performance. Following SCI Verkehr?s ?Operational Excellence Tool?, the staff were involved in reviewing the current situation and developing improved processes in accordance with a tried and tested process. In addition, the task involved coaching the logistical managers at the site and thus cementing the new structures.
