Customer: Freight wagon lessor
SCI Verkehr supported a wagon lessor in conducting a vendor commercial and strategic due diligence for a refinancing and investment initiative in the European freight wagon leasing sector. The scope of services included a detailed analysis of the client\'s wagon portfolio, market dynamics in key European countries, and competitive positioning within the leasing landscape. SCI Verkehr also reviewed financial projections and assessed the alignment of planned investments with market demand. SCI Verkehr delivered a full market report and an executive summary to facilitate investor engagement.
Customer: Midsized vehicle manufacturer
SCI Verkehr has developed the foundations for making decisions regarding future product portfolio orientation of a midsized German manufacturer of shunting locomotives. For this purpose, SCI Verkehr has analysed the procurement demand from industrial, non-federal and port railways in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Low Countries up to 2018. To determine the procurement demand SCI Verkehr verified and built upon the market information contained within its database using interviews with potential clients.

For a global manufacturer of rolling stock components, SCI Verkehr is updating a project monitoring tool monthly. This monitoring tool presents the data and facts essential for success and decision making. The client receives information on relevant vehicle projects and can thus develop projects and initiate necessary product developments in good time. The latest results can be accessed at any time in a client-specific internet platform.
Customer: DB Regio AG
In 2003 and 2006 SCI Verkehr analysed the German market for rolling stock maintenance on behalf of DB AG. Building upon this, SCI Verkehr is now updating its database of alternative providers of maintenance services and operators of train repair facilities. In addition, this time SCI Verkehr analyses information about the existence and quality of usage conditions and maintenance plans. In a brief analysis, the potential for railway companies outside of DB group to build plants and workshops of their own is presented.

In order to fulfil the Basel II criteria for financing rolling stock, determining the loss given default (LGD) is a key aspect. The LGD reflects the risk in the event of a loan default which is the result of the difference between the market value and the collateral security of an asset. In turn, this determines the necessary equity ratio that the financier has to pledge according to Basel II. In developing a method to determine the LGD, SCI Verkehr assists an international banking house and first of all carries out a prototypical application for one asset class within the scope of a feasibility study.
Customer: Financial investor
SCI Verkehr evaluated the portfolio of a leasing company on behalf of a potential investor. For this purpose, it compiled a forecast of the future leasing revenues of the locomotive fleet for the next 30 years on the basis of market expectations and, using a discount cash flow (DCF) evaluation, the value of the assets/leasing company was ascertained.

SCI Verkehr conducted a short assessment of modern electric multiple units meant for operation in regional and commuter rail transport in the Netherlands by means of an asset description and determining the market value.
Customer: NEW.S
In 2004, SCI Verkehr developed a ?logistics report for the food industry in NRW? for the social partner project Nordrhein-Westfälische ErnährungsWirtschaft e.V. (NEW.S). This includes a number of optimisation approaches and recommendations for action, which reflects the complexity of the demands on logistics in the food industry. Since 2005, NEW.S and SCI Verkehr GmbH have been carrying out a series of workshops entitled ?Optimisation in Logistics? with company representatives in order to intensify the dialogue about these issues in the sector. For two further workshops in autumn 2006, SCI Verkehr is taking over the entire content preparation and management. This includes concept development, detailed planning, acquiring speakers and the presentation of the workshops.

SCI Verkehr supported a strategic investor in its commercial due diligence on an intermodal terminal (rail-road) in Germany. This involved accompanying the development of the investor's valuation approach, assessing operational benefits/opportunities and analysing development potential.
Customer: Transport company in Germany
In a feasibility study, SCI Verkehr has assessed the advantages and disadvantages of existing bus concepts for alternative drives (hybrid vehicles, plug-in vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles) and the infrastructure required for this. Against the background of this assessment, SCI Verkehr has derived a detailed procurement proposal for buses with alternative drives on behalf of an international transport company.

SCI Verkehr has supported a railway transport company in compiling a competitive wettbewerbsfähigen transport offer. We have compiled of all important documents as well as a marketing-strategic consultancy for compiling the offer. The client has been awarded the contract.
Customer: Global player in the food industry
In autumn 2008, a client from the food industry carried out a wide-reaching operational excellence project at one of its sites. In this project, the production and logistics (warehousing and distribution) systems were examined and various changes resolved. One of the main changes to the logistics system was an optimisation of loading during the night. SCI Verkehr supported the implementation of the changes, also operationally, and held several meetings on location in order to ensure the sustainability of the process changes.
