Adif Alta Velocidad (AV), the infrastructure administrator of the Spanish high-speed rail (HSR) network, has shortlisted three bidders in a tendering process for transport contracts on three HSR corridors (((17/2019-166777))). The three successful bidders are Spanish state railway Renfe, the Intermodalidad de Levante consortium of Operador Ferroviario de Levante, Trenitalia and Air Nostrum, as well as Rielsfera, a subsidiary of French state railway SNCF. Adif AV is planning to sign the framework agreements before 15th March 2020, subject to approval by Spain\'s National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC). The three companies will be able to operate services with effect from 14th December 2020 along the three corridors of Madrid - Barcelona - French border, Madrid - Valencia/Alicante and Madrid - Seville/Málaga. As a result, Adif AV expects to see a 65% increase in the number of HSR services currently provided by Renfe.

Azerbaijani state railway ADY and Swiss rolling stock manufacturer Stadler have signed a contract for the delivery of ten multiple-unit trains of the type Flirt worth EUR 115 million. Four of the trains will be diesel multiple units (DMU) additionally equipped with an electric drive that will be used for interregional services, while six of the trains will be supplied as electric multiple units (EMU). Of these EMUs, three will be used for interregional services, and the remaining three will be designed for regional services. The first vehicles will be delivered to ADY in 2022.

The Rath Group has ordered two additional Vectron MS locomotives from rolling stock manufacturer Siemens Mobility. The vehicles will be delivered by the end of 2020, and will be deployed for rail freight transport services of subsidiary RTB Cargo throughout Europe. Each locomotive has a capacity of 6,400 kW and reaches a top speed of 160 km/h. They are equipped with the necessary national train control systems as well as with the European Train Control System (ETCS).

The Metropole Aix-Marseille-Provence municipal association has commissioned Alstom to carry out the renewal and automation of the Marseille metro network, worth EUR 430 million. As part of this contract, Alstom will develop, supply and install the operating system and equipment for the automatic operation of the network\'s two lines. Alstom will also put into service 38 new rubber-tyred metros with four cars each, and modernise all the audiovisual passenger information inside the stations. The new vehicles are scheduled to enter service in early 2024.The metros will run in semi-automatic mode with drivers until mid-2025 on line M2, and until 2026 on line M1, before switching to full automation.

On 20th November 2019, Chnese state-owned logistics company Cosco Shipping acquired a stake of more than 15% in the Budapest Intermodal Logistics Centre (BILK) terminal from Rail Cargo Group (RCG), the rail freight transport subsidiary of Austrian state railway ÖBB. The terminal offers direct intermodal connections to the largest ports and terminals in Europe.
