The market for High-Speed Rail is growing rapidly -
The turnover volume of the Asian market will reach the European until 2012

(10.02.2005) High-Speed Rail (HSR) is one of the dynamically growing segments in the transportation sector. The recently released SCI Multi Client Study points this out. The study analyses those countries with an established HSR like Japan, France and Germany as well as perspectives for the realisation of new projects in other countries. SCI, a specialist within the railway branch, does not only list current and projected infrastructure plans, but also shows the future market and sales trends for high-speed trains.

(Planned) extension of the High-Speed Rail Network

The study shows besides the current building- and upgrading-projects in Southern Europe, which will lead to an increase of the high-speed network up to 9.000 km in Europe in the year 2015, the disproportionate growth of the Asian market. High turnover volumes for high-speed trains are expected in Japan, which will order replacements for the second generation of Shinkansen trains, as well as in China and India. The Asian market volume will become as high as in Europe until 2012 because of announced Chinese orders and further growth of the high-speed train fleet in Asia (e.g. Korea, Japan). SCI Verkehr is estimating that the worldwide market volume for high-speed trains will rise up to 2,5 Mrd. Euro per year after 2010.

There will be a high growth rate for tilting trains, which will be more established in high speed intercity traffic and in HSR in Europe and Asia. The raise of maximum speed will advance the competitiveness of HSR. The Multi Client Study "Market developments in High Speed Rail" is analysing technological and infrastructural requirements made on the vehicles as well as the market, which will be more diversified for suppliers. Main reason for this is the market entry of new suppliers like Talgo, ROTEM or AnsaldoBreda in foreign markets.

"With this study of the worldwide High-Speed Rail market we completed our Multi-Client-serial and offer a competent basis for relevant market data and market developments of every railway vehicle segment", explains Maria Leenen, general manager of SCI.
