The Worldwide Market for Railway Technology 2010

In time for the InnoTrans 2010, SCI Verkehr will publish the fifth edition in its successful series of studies on the worldwide market for railway technology. The railway market has recovered surprisingly fast after the world economic crisis. On average, this dynamic will essentially continue over the next five years; SCI Verkehr even anticipates a higher annual growth rate in the world market by 2013. This is expected to abate somewhat later on, however.

SCI Verkehr specialises in global strategic consultancy for railway companies and the railway industry and provides analyses of the world market for railway technology in more than 20 regular detailed studies. The present study on ‘The Worldwide Market for Railway Technology 2010’ is the flagship of many of these detailed analyses. It summarises the most important facts and developments for the coming five years.

In concrete terms, the study includes:

  • Management Summary listing the most important developments and trends in the railway market
  • The structure and development of the global railway technology market divided into the following eight world market regions: Western and Eastern Europe, North and South America, Asia, Australia, Africa/Middle East and the CIS
  • An overview of the market development of the worldwide railway technology market, subdivided into product groups and market regions in the period 2010-2015
  • An analysis of rolling stock fleets and rail infrastructure stocks, differentiated by investment purpose, region and market shares in the product segments
  • A list of infrastructure stocks and fleets for the main countries and operators and important vehicle and infrastructure projects in the annex to the study

SCI Verkehr analyses markets from the bottom up: Based upon systematic observation of the railway markets, a detailed worldwide database of the installed base and projects forms the basis for detailed studies on the various segments of the railway industry and the most important regional focus markets. The project database with currently 3,150 investment projects is particularly valuable. We regularly carry out analyses in terms of their status and progress, financial budgets and their most important project partners. These analyses are incorporated into our forecasts. This study is also based on the evaluation of data from the weekly information service SCI/RAILDATA, the worldwide SCI vehicle database and publicly accessible sources, interviews with internal and external experts as well as SCI Verkehr GmbH’s continuous observation of the market.

The study is available in German and English from September 2010.
