Port infrastructure markets in Europe

With the Multi Client Study "Port infrastructure markets in Europe”, SCI Verkehr GmbH is responding to the high demand for information on the present situation in the port infrastructure market in Europe.

Transport markets around the world have been reacting to a drop in economic power in 2009. Port operators have been struggling with decreased handling volumes and the expansion of port infrastructure in terms of new port terminals, new handling equipment or an improved intermodal connection has been put on hold. However, handling volumes at ports are increasing again. World transport volumes are rising and a growing internationalisation of trade increases the importance of seaports. Europe has a high reliability on seaborne imports and exports backed by a compact transport network on road, rail, and inland waterways. With increased handling volumes, the performance of European seaports in terms of capacities of port handling equipment as well as their connectivity to inland transportation will be spotlighted again.

In concrete terms, the market study "PORT INFRASTRUCTURE MARKETS IN EUROPE” includes:

  • Assessment of current developments and growth drivers of European port infrastructure markets
  • Analysis of port hinterland connections and the impact on European rail freight markets
  • Overview on major investment projects in European ports
  • Market volumes and forecasts of the demand for port handling equipment (Ship-to-shore and on-Shore container cranes, harbour cranes for bulk and general cargo) and their suppliers
  • Compilation of detailed factsheets on the TOP 50 ports in Europe and their port infrastructure (handling equipment, hinterland connections, and future investments)
  • Company factsheets of the TOP 25 important port equipment manufacturers with product portfolio and production locations

The study is available in English from August 2010.
